Data-driven software development makes perfect sense, yet it remains uncommon in many industries. Many product owners, business analysts, and product managers still struggle with data collection and data-informed decision-making. Instead of relying on intuition, gut feelings, or mimicking competitors, the most successful modern organizations base their decisions on concrete facts.

In our upcoming webinar on October 8, Kevin Warenman (Lead Strategy & Consulting, VI Company) and Lies Oudemans (Product Owner, VanEck) will share their insights and tools for helping agile teams in FinTech use data as the foundation for their sprint backlogs and user stories. Data is the key to achieving goals in financial organizations.

About Lies Oudemans, product owner of VanEck

Together with VI Company, VanEck launched a portal for new investors, requiring each client to go through an onboarding process. In her Product Owner role and as P&L responsible for the portal, Lies focuses on guiding as many users as possible through each step. To identify why users drop off at different stages, she began leveraging extensive data. She built dashboards and, together with her agile team, ensures that every story in the sprint backlog is backed by data.

"I don’t think I'm an expert yet, but I but I do rely heavily on my data dashboards—they help me make daily decisions for creating new stories. The better I understand the data and how to guide users through our funnel, the better our results."

Why data-driven development?

Data-driven software development helps developers find potential problems, prioritize the most valuable features, and improve the quality of output. It provides informed decisions about the design and functionality of solutions. Which also allows them to be continuously improved. 'The retail market lies far ahead with e-commerce. We learn from their methodologies, with the end user in mind. The FinTech market is quite different. There is still a lot of looking at each other and compliancy is often an inhibiting factor, but we still recommend working based on data as well.' At the retail level, you see banks, for example, already achieving great success, such as with Tikkie. Something that was once started as a trial balloon, by an agile team. 'They should be proud of that, to work this way. This is also how we like to work with our customers.'
